I definitely was suppose to write this up few weeks ago when I had to pleasure of watching this. Hopefully y’all hit the social media channels and caught the video review I did. Got a lot to say and didn’t have the time I needed over there so I will brain dump it here!

I watched 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks later leading up to 28 Years later. Ran it back so I can get a good reference. Movies that come up so many years later don’t have a good run usually. 28 Years later didn’t miss a beat. Danny Boyle gave us a gem in 28 Days Later and came back for round 2 with 28 Years Later. He kept it authentic recreating the iconic documentary look but updated. The story line doesn’t follow the first 2 except the fact of the virus evolution. The plot is the same as the others though. Starts out with a group of survivors who are at peace and that is all interrupted and all hell breaks loose. Fast forward to a larger group who is sustaining but there’s always a reason to get into some shit.

After is making a man of his son and takes him to the main land to hunt and gather. Along the journey, Dad teaches son to effectively kill zombies. They encounter several different kinds like slow fat one and runners and even alphas. This is where the evolution comes into play. Alphas are leaders of packs of zombies. They control and communicate when hunting. They are the smartest and strongest. The family encounter one and that guy is a BEAST! The scene where dad and son are running for their life had me on the edge! The duo make it back to safety and kill the alpha. Once back the town gathers to celebrate the boy but it’s all lies and the kid isn’t please. Especially since his dad is cheating on his sick mother.

While out the boy saw a fire in the distance and the dad told him its a crazed doctor who left a long time ago. The boy hears ‘doctor’ and decided to sneak out on his own back to the main land to seek help for his mom. He brings his mom with him. While seeking the doctor they get into so much shit. He is trying to be the man his dad imagines him as but out of spite and truly for his mom. They encounter another alpha, big Samoan looking guy. They also find the doctor who saves them from the alpha. While at the doctors camp the boy finds out that the mom has cancer and will not survive. Now he is alone and stays out in the mainland to grow and continue his life journey.

All that is well and good and simple but there’s so much more to it that obviously I wont speak on because GO WATCH IT!

Elements of the movie that make it viral. The flashbacks and chants of past soldiers. This was kinda outta place to me but I think it was some cerebral message of how it use to be and it came full circle. That’s how life is now. The new age visuals Boyle brought was were nice and nostalgic. The hype of the use of iPhone filming was pretty unique. It was like a semi circle capture of the zombies getting killed. Very dynamic and cool I must say. The Samoan alpha takes the cake of viral talk. This mans meat was full center when he was on screen and im like wtf. Why? lol He was ravenous and had a love interest which was new. There was a pregnant zombie with big ol titties who gave birth. The mom and son took the baby because it was not infected. The boy took the baby back to the sanctuary before going back out for good. Lastly there was a group of guys who where like power rangers led by a man who goes by Jimmy. They saw Jimmy carved in wood and zombies throughout the movie. At the end the group saved the boy and kinda offered him to join them. This Jimmy reference was to a real guy who had a cult of some sort back in the 70s.

28 Years Later was kind of all over the place at times but overall I liked it and it was very entertaining. Danny knows how to do zombies like no other; Rivals the Koreans. Not sure if the end was a set up for another but if the franchise ends here, I’m not mad at it. Check the movie out and let us know what you think. Pop over to Nobodyz Opinion social media to see the review video. Till next time.
