Jessica Alba is back with an action movie is it good?
As I sat back one night going through a backlog of movies in “My List” on Netflix I seen Jessica Alba and stopped. I thought to myself. When was the last time Jessica has been in a movie? According to IMDB the last film she was in was “Killers Anonymous” in 2019. Alba isn’t the best actor in the world but usually is movies that are at least entertaining.
In “Trigger Warning,” Alba plays Parker, a Special Forces commando who returns to her hometown to investigate her father’s death and uncovers a conspiracy. Haven’t heard this one before (that’s sarcasm). It starts with Parker being overseas on a mission and things get crazy. She takes on some terrorist type figures and cuts them down. The scenes where Parker uses a knife are very good and she puts knife skills on display throughout the movie. In the midst of the battle a few of her comrades die. You would’ve thought these deaths would mean more in the plot but they don’t (I’ll get to this later). Then enters “Spider”. Her Special Forces bestie and hacker which we get no backstory on. While they talk after the mission Parker gets a call that her Dad has died.
Like I stated in the beginning Alba ain’t the best actor in the world but I expected way more emotion when someone gets that type of news. She goes back to town and this whole time they make it seem like she hates this place for no reason and cant wait to leave.
The sheriff is her high school sweet heart. He gives her the news that not only did her father die but it might be a suicide. The sheriffs little brother is selling guns and drugs in her little town. Once you see this it feels like they just threw Lara Croft in “Walking Tall” and replaced The Rock.
Long story short everything in between the fight scenes are terrible. The flashbacks with her and her father don’t have any emotion and the father looks 65 in the flashbacks and she’s clearly late 30’s early 40’s.They had a chance to link the story a lot better than what was executed.
First, I thought it would’ve made more sense if in the opening scene where her teammate dies and she says “I’ll tell his family”. From there we could’ve at least see her do that in a location close to her hometown and then have her get a call saying her father was in an accident/suicide and barely holding on. Give me a hand holding scene or something! Make us care about the characters. They also had a chance to take the FBI most wanted villain and turn him into the big villain at some point. Instead it was just her mowing through all the enemies and the last enemy killing themselves.
The one positive is that the action is good. Jessica Alba really did her thing in the action scenes. She’s definitely ready for “The Expendables 10” lol. Wasn’t the worst I’ve seen but definitely wasn’t best. Definitely the movie to thrown on extremely late and playing as background music.
Rating: 6.5/10
