On my travel vibes yet again, this time for school. Shout out to me for higher education! Cable TV provided me with a classic Quentin Tarantino movie, Kill Bill Vol. 1. It’s been a while since I saw the movie. I usually try to run through it in my head to see where the holes are. Everything past her waking her legs up was a blur. Until she fights the Crazy 88 and O-Ren Ishii, everything was unclear. So I locked in.

Quentin Tarantino will never do anything the “regular” way. He is an innovator how he tells a story and directs it. We come to the part in Kill Bill where we see the story of O-Ren Ishii. It’s a story worth telling because of her up bringing and her heritage. She is half Chinese – Japanese and American and becomes the head of the Yakuza Mafia. Ummm, sure, let’s see how this came to be!

Cue the ANIME!

Tarantino gives us 7:30 – 8 minuets of Anime Masterpiece! Well, let’s spotlight Production I.G studio and producer Katsuji Morishita. Morishita said Tarantino came to him personally with the sequences in his head and acted them all out in person. Needless to say, Tarantino wasn’t playing about with this segment of the movie. Animation style – GRITTY. Energy – RAW. Depiction – INTENSE. It’s hard to find something of the same length that tells a complete origin story from child to adult. It does this without filler or plot holes.

I felt compelled to spotlight a still shot from the anime on my social media. My homeboy immediately hit me up because he is “obsessed” with this cinematic masterpiece. His word. We proceeded to talk tattoo ideas and even locked in an artist lol. I understand why this story gets overlooked. It’s baked into a movie that, in itself, is noteworthy from start to finish. But I am here to bring it up to the surface where it belongs.

If you have never had the pleasure of watching this, PLEASE go check it out. I’m sure it’s on Youtube somewhere. Let us know what you think. Be sure to stick around for the tattoos coming later this year.
