Over the last two years, Dream Works has been pretty solid on releases. Looking back at their catalogue, I liked most of the releases. However, I think this is the best one to date.

This movie takes place on a secluded island. There is a shipwreck, and a container filled with ROZZUM robots is washed ashore. One robot, named Roz, is still functional. She tries to follow her directives in a place she wasn’t programmed to navigate. The island is full of animals and wilderness. She attempts to satisfy her directives of completing tasks the best way she can. This only scares the wildlife and confuses her on how to continue. Since she isn’t equipped with understanding she kills some geese. She learns the geese were nesting an egg. Out of curiosity, she takes it with her. She also protects it from predators. The egg soon hatches, and the gosling imprints himself on to her.
By this time, she has been banged up pretty good and not functioning normally but is getting by. I am unsure if she figured out the animal language through programming. Alternatively, maybe she became aware just for the movie to work. A fox named Fink followed Roz closely because he saw the baby gosling as easy prey. Figured he could trick Roz into letting him eat it. She caught on to him quickly but he found another way to use her to his benefit. Roz thinks Fink is trying to help her with the gosling tasks. As a result, they develop a one-sided relationship.
Time passes and the gosling, whom is named Brightbill, has grown up. Meanwhile, Roz has provided food and shelter for Brightbill and fink, essentially making Finks life very easy. In between it all, Fink has actually developed real feelings for Brightbill and Roz. Fink informs Roz that Brightbill needs to be the bird he needs to be because of migration. Brightbill is a runt, naturally smaller than normal geese. He has to work twice as hard to manage to migrate in the winter. Once Brightbill can migrate, Roz will call the company. They will send a vessel to take her. Then she will return to her home. Over time, Roz has evolved. She isn’t thinking with her computer brain. Instead she is feeling with her “heart”. She has become motherly and nurturing.

Brightbill has now become the goose he was destined to be. Now he has to assimilate into the geese population. Since he was raised by a robot and a predator, none of the other geese accept him. He is looked down upon because of this size and upbringing. Not to mention, his social skills need a lot of work. Well, Brightbill has had a secret admirer the whole time. An old timer named Long Neck. He has been rooting for him and watching his progress. Long Neck has invited Brightbill to join his formation and fly. Brightbill is gone and Roz is at a crossroads. Her original plan to leave is being halted by the feeling of sadness. She doesn’t want to leave in fear she will never see Brightbill again.
She stays.
She waits.
During this time, it is full on winter on the island. Its extremely unforgiving to the animals. Now that Roz values life differently, she sets out to bring all the animals under her roof. Understanding they are mostly natural enemies; she feels the want to survive will trump the want to kill. The animals being to fight but Fink steps in to put in perspective what Roz risked by helping them survive. Meanwhile, Brightbills journey is going well. Traveling far and getting along with the flock. They stop at an advanced city to rest. This location has many ROZZUM robots working. Brightbill tries to make contact thinking all the systems could potentially accept him like Roz did. That goes horribly wrong and the robots being elimination of the geese.

Time goes by and the geese migrate back to the island where ROZ waits for Brightbill. They are both anxious to see each other. They did not get to fully express how they feel about one another. When they finally see each other its bittersweet. The company sends a drone to collect ROZ and destroy anything that gets in the way of the task. The animals, whom have formed a bond, now come together to protect their home. A battle ensues and lives are lost but the war is won. Through it all, ROZ knows that they will keep coming for her. She decides it’s best she leaves to protect them. Brightbill is only concerned with whether ROZ will come back. If she doesn’t return, he wonders if she will remember him.
This one touched the heart strings lol It wasn’t watered down with how emotions were presented. The situations were real along with the consequences. Check it out and let us know what you think.
