Good Thrillers always get a watch from me, but I have a soft spot for ones that take place in one location. Carry On, starring Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, Theo Rossi and Sofia Carson, is a clash between terrorists and TSA.

Ethan, played by Taron, is a TSA agent who is looking for purpose in life. After failing the police test, he has settled with the TSA and is stuck in advancing in life. His girlfriend Nora, played by Sofia is a manager for an airline and they work at the same airport. Ethan is coaxed by his co-worker to take initiative and go to the boss and ask for a better position. He is doing all this with the thought in mind of Nora telling him to retake the police test. He wants to show her he isn’t washed up. Ehtan gets the opportunity to work to bag scanner. While doing so he gets a call from the Traveler played by Jason. A joke, Ethan thinks at first, but the Traveler quickly lets him know he is for real. The traveler tells Ethan all about his life and girlfriend; Threats to get him to comply with his demands. His demand is simple, let a guy through the line without alerting to the contents inside. The traveler is accompanied by the Watcher, played by Theo. The watcher is a information gatherer as well as a hitman.

This movie spins the dial of fight or flight. Ethan wants to do the right thing, but he doesn’t want to do anything that will get Nora hurt. There is great dialogue between Ethan and the Traveler. Getting to know one another. During the duration of the call Ethan begins to figure out ways to defy him without them knowing. Ethan isn’t polished but has natural skills, part of the reason Nora wants him to retake the police test. Since he isn’t polished in how to handle serious situations, he goes through the ringer while trying to save the people of the airport.

This movie reminded me of other single location movies such as Phone Booth (2002) with Colin Ferrel, Buried (2010) with Ryan Reynolds and Speed (1994) with Keanu Reeves. There are others but these I really liked and carry the same atmosphere to Carry On. I’m not big on ratings but I was surprised this one got low ratings. All that aside, this is a good action thriller that deserves a watch. If you haven’t seen the others, you should give them a go as well.
