Skarsgard Skarsgard Skarsgard, I wasn’t completely sold on this one once I saw the poster. Weird coming from me because I am a sucker for any and all bloody action movies. Skarsgard is known for horror so a action flick…ehhh, we’ll see.

A boy is deaf and mute is trained by a shaman to be an assassin, to kill the woman who murdered his mom and sister. He was put through the ringer from a boy to a man. Once grown, he finally seizes his opportunity to make his move and the carnage begins. The shaman sid he wasn’t ready so when he set out on his mission he was stumbling all the way through. Im not going to go into a full movie review because I believe its well worth the watch.

Initially I was thinking this was going to be a action movie that is oversaturated with killing and action to the point where it would be predictable and repetitive. I was wrong. There are so many elements to this movie that make it watch worthy all the way through. Since he can not talk, he has a voice over in his head he uses and its a voice from a old school fighting arcade game. As I mentioned earlier, his isn’t ready, so the irreverent comedy that comes with him making mistakes but still finding a way to push through was a nice touch. There are a lot of different uses of the camera to capture the fighting scenes which was a pleasure to see. Some action directors have a style that is prevalent in the whole film, but this is like a combination of many directing styles.

The twist at the end segwayed nicely to the true ending. Skarsgard really took this role seriously in the manner of his body, how in shape he was and I noticed he did a lot of the stunts and action sequences filmed. Also worth mentioning, the helmet! A character in the movie has a helmet with a digital display that shows an image or words to convey the emotion they’re feeling. S U P E R D O P E!
I liked how out of the box this was. It’s not the first movie made like this but the use of all the elements could have made the movie muddy and uninteresting after a while but there was just the right mix of wackiness and seriousness to blend and spill out a nice sip of craziness.
