This one actually comes from a TikTok interaction. A viewer didn’t hold back their feelings on a movie so we chatted and I asked to be recommended one to watch and I did. VOILA!

Set at a time when log cabins were the main type of shelter, a small outpost in the wilderness is visited by a stranger in need of help. He says there’s a Army Colonel going around killing other service members. CPT John Pierce, played by Guy Pierce, who was sent to the outpost because of reports of missing persons, sets out to investigate the claims of the wounded man, with a small team. Once they arrive at a cave, the CPT and a second, go in to see what they can uncover. While inside, things with the wounded stranger get a little strange. His behavior starts the change, he isn’t hurt anymore and raises red flags for the rest of them outside the cave waiting. CPT and company discover the whole thing is a set up and the stranger is the one who killed the missing soldiers and tries to run out and warn them but the stranger had already killed everyone. Shocked by what he sees, CPT fires a shot at him but the stranger keeps coming at him like a wild animal. CPT throws himself off a cliff to escape but breaks his leg in the fall. The stranger looks for him but doesn’t find him under all the brush. CPT is there for a few days nursing his injury and fighting to survive.

CPT makes is back to post and receives medical attention. When he comes to, he is greeted with a new acting Colonel; in walks the stranger who is now going by COL Ives. Ives is fooling everyone except Pierce, who is on his guard 24/7. Pierce tries his best but he begins to paint a target on his back as the one who is crazy and murderous especially when others at the post are found dead. Eventually everyone is dead except our protagonist and antagonist. They fight for death and death comes.

Cannibalism is the back drop for the movie. Old folklore told at that time spoke of eating human flesh allowed you to gain the strength of the man you eat, or woman. Ives had been doing this for some time and ran out of food so devised a plan to consume everyone at the post. Our protagonist’s moral compass says that isn’t right even though he has personal experience that what Ives is saying is true.

All of this is actually a solid story if done correctly but it wasn’t. The poster leads the audience to believe it’s going to be a hellacious and gruesome movie, it’s not. The poor scoring of the movie kills the vibe immediately. Within the first 10 minuets I was comparing it to the “Hot Shots” movies or even “Robin Hood Men in Tights”. Wild disappointed in the scoring. The scene when Ives reveals himself at the cave and he is chasing the soldier and it sounded like a “Looney Tunes” chase scene. Now this next one is a personal jab and I’m sure some will understand. PVT Toffler had a chance to shoot Ives point blank but didn’t and gets killed because he got scared and froze up. Does this sound familiar to another movie? PVT Toffler is played by Jeremy Davies, ringing a bell yet? Davies played in a movie that release just a year prior to this, where he played a soldier also. IS IT CLICKING YET? CPL Upham in “Saving private Ryan”! The way he let Mellish get killed and just sat on the steps crying had the world furious with him lol and he does it again a year later.

The acting itself was mediocre which was disappointing given the cast. It was a decent list. the 2nd act started in a way that seemed the movie has gotten its act together and will finish up strong but it didn’t. I don’t feel the on screen characters played well with each other and the fight scene at the end left a lot to be desired. In the right hands, i feel the movie could of been solid but the ball was dropped for sure.
